Moe’s Southwest Grill Donates $100,000 to JDRF

Fast-Casual Mexican Concept Helping to Find Cure for Type 1 Diabetes

Atlanta, GA (March 5, 2012) – As part of an ongoing commitment to their charitable partner, Moe’s Southwest Grill, the fast-casual Mexican restaurant known for their southwest fare and engaging atmosphere, recently donated $100,000 to JDRF, whose mission is to find a cure for type 1 diabetes (T1D) and its complications through the support of research.

Over the past year, Moe’s Southwest Grill has partnered with JDRF to raise money on both a national and local level through franchise partner participation. As the leading charitable funder and advocate of T1D research worldwide, JDRF has awarded more than $1.6 billion to diabetes research since its founding in 1970, and is dedicated to curing, treating and preventing the disease and its complications.

By donating a portion of ‘Make it a Meal’ purchases, Moe’s was able to raise $100,000 nationally. In addition to monetary donations all year, Moe’s changed its iconic yellow cups to red and added messaging about JDRF’s mission and the partnership.

Complimenting the national push, several franchise partners locally hosted fundraising events, donated food and sponsored walks. In addition, Moe’s corporate associates formed a team for the Walk to Cure Diabetes in Atlanta on behalf of Nick Ronn, a high school lacrosse player who lives with T1D. With this single walk, Moe’s raised more than $12,500.

Paul Damico, president of Moe’s Southwest Grill, presented a check for $100,000 to Carl Marks, JDRF Florida’s regional director, during halftime of the 2012 Moe’s Southwest Grill Sunshine Classic lacrosse tournament in Jacksonville, FL.

“We are thrilled to be a part of such an amazing foundation and are happy to help in any way possible,” said Damico. “Our franchise partners really went above and beyond with their local JDRF chapters. It’s a humbling experience to know that our efforts are going to help further the funding of the critical research needed for type 1 diabetes.”

Moe’s Southwest Grill Forms Charitable Partnership with JDRF

ATLANTA, GA (August 10, 2011) Moe’s Southwest Grill has announced a major fundraising campaign through the restaurant chain’s national charitable partnership with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), further aligning the brand with healthy eating and showcasing Moe’s fully customizable menu.

As the leading charitable funder and advocate of type 1 diabetes research worldwide, JDRF has funded more than $1.5 billion for research since its inception dedicated to curing, treating and preventing the disease. Money will be raised both on the national and local scale through franchise partner participation.

“On behalf of JDRF, we are so pleased to have the support of Moe’s Southwest Grill,” said Yvonne Miller, JDRF national director of corporate development. “The dollars raised at the many Moe’s locations around the country will help to further the funding of the critical research needed for type 1 diabetes.”

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that can strike at any age, and can be fatal. Until a cure is found, people with type 1 diabetes have to test their blood sugar and give themselves insulin injections multiple times or use a pump – each day, every day of their lives.

People with diabetes must carefully balance their food intake and exercise to regulate blood sugar levels, which is why having options when dining out is so important. Food at Moe’s Southwest Grill is not cooked in microwaves, and does not contain animal fat, lard or MSG. Moe’s offers guests nothing but the best with over 20 fresh ingredients including all natural chicken, 100% grass-fed sirloin steak, steroid-free, grain-fed pork and even organic tofu. There are more than 20 gluten-free ingredients and all meals are fully customizable.

“We are thrilled to have a national partner that our Franchise Partners can support locally,” saidPaul Damico, president of Moe’s Southwest Grill. “While we have plans to conduct a system wide fundraising effort, Franchise Partners who wish to take it to the next level can work with their local JDRF chapter and support their neighborhood JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes.“
