Leading southwest fast casual restaurant chain warns consumers of queso imitators

ATLANTA – July 12, 2017 Moe’s Southwest Grill® is issuing an official public announcement concerning multiple alleged “queso” dishes posing as cheesy authentic goodness. These queso impersonators are claiming to serve the perfection that is smooth and delectable queso, attempting to fool consumers across the nation.

Moe’s has been serving its queso for 17 years and our rich ribbons of liquid gold are famous for a reason. Moe’s was struck with this news when cups of nacho-cheese-esque dips were roaming around, pretending to be southwestern-inspired queso. As a courtesy to our awesome fans and with a promise to serve and protect all queso lovers, Moe’s is issuing this public warning.

ATLANTA (August 5, 2016) –  In response to a growing consumer sentiment towards cage free eggs and the adoption of this policy by several other food service companies, FOCUS Brands is joining forces with others in the industry and announcing its commitment to sourcing ingredients that contain only cage free eggs.

While not a large user of eggs or food items with egg as an ingredient, FOCUS Brands will work with its suppliers to ensure that all of its restaurant menu items will contain only cage free eggs by 2026.

“Moe’s of the Future” Opens in Roswell, Georgia, as Testing Grounds for Brand Innovations

Moe’s Southwest Grill debuts first experimental restaurant to try out new menu concepts, store designs, operational processes and more

ROSWELL, GA.  (Sept. 24, 2015) – Welcome to Moe’s!® Moe’s Southwest Grill®, the fast-casual restaurant best known for creating craveable burritos to order with fresh, flavorful ingredients, will today open its first “Moe’s of the Future” experimental restaurant in Roswell, Georgia, the home-state where Moe’s was founded in 2000. This location will enable the brand to openly test improvements to standard restaurant design and layout, culinary offerings, customer service practices and operation procedures, without disrupting ongoing training and day-to-day business at franchise locations. Because this restaurant is not bound by the standard protocols that exist brand-wide, it will allow Moe’s to experiment with bolder concepts and implement them at a faster rate than ever before.

Moe’s of the Future will execute this testing on an ongoing basis with the ultimate goal of improving guest experience across all Moe’s locations, responding to changes in the industry and tech landscape, increasing efficiency and cost-savings, and attracting new customers to the brand. The first differences guests will experience upon entry into Moe’s of the Future on opening day include all-digital menu boards, a larger visible prep area with windows into the fresh ingredient displays designed to increase transparency of fresh food preparation and community tables with charging stations to keep consumers engaged and connected throughout their dining experience. Additionally, the space will designate a second production line solely for mobile/online orders, designed to improve efficiency and potentially double the number of transactions during peak hours without any disruptions to in-house guest service.

Additional changes consumers can expect to see down the line at Moe’s of the Future include brand new menu items and ingredients, equipment upgrades, new cutting-edge design and aesthetic elements, more innovative uses of technology and changes to the ordering and dining experience. The restaurant will be constantly evolving and continuing to implement more radical, first-of-their-kind concepts as time goes on, with a few new modifications being tested per quarter.

Moe’s Southwest Grill Names Bruce Schroder as President

Since taking on the new role of Group President, with responsibility for the Restaurant Brands, Paul Damico has been leading the 15-year-old brand while searching for a leader with both the right experience and the right fit for the brand’s irreverent culture.

Bruce joins from Regus Express North America, where he served as President and grew the business with the goal of commercializing their mobile office concept with consumers. He has an impressive career, having worked for companies like HomeGain, Peet’s Coffee and Tea, AIMCO, Adina for Life, Wells Fargo and Arthur Andersen, but most notably he spent 16 years with PepsiCo, where he progressed through a wide variety of roles and assignments in finance, operations, sales, and marketing, all of which provided an excellent business foundation and enabled him to impact over $100 million in incremental contribution during his tenure with the brand.

Moe’s Southwest Grill Continues Fast-Paced Growth with Opening of 600th Restaurant

 Leading Southwest Fast-Casual Brand Celebrates Significant Opening in Salt Lake City, Inks Franchise Agreements Nationwide 

ATLANTA – May 19, 2015 – Moe’s Southwest Grill®, a leader in the fast-casual Mexican space, opened its 600th restaurant in Salt Lake City, Utah this month. The milestone reflects the momentum the brand has built by signing several high-profile multi-unit franchise agreements nationwide, just 15 years after opening its first location in Atlanta, Georgia.

“The opening of our 600th restaurant is an achievement that was reached largely thanks to our dedicated franchisees and loyal guests across the country,” said Paul Damico, Group President for FOCUS Brands. “As we continue to expand our footprint in coming years, our focus will remain on offering quality food and unique dining experiences.”

The Salt Lake City restaurant marks the first Moe’s in the state and is part of the company’s plans to further develop its presence in the western part of the U.S.. Moe’s hopes to open 70 new restaurants this year and continue an aggressive expansion, with new Moe’s also debuting in Chicago, Cleveland, and the state of Iowa. Expansion over the coming year will be driven by several multi-unit franchise deals inked, including:

  • A 20-unit deal for West Chicago, signed by Willie Torchia, franchise owner of 16 TGI Fridays® restaurants;
  • A 12-unit deal for the Baltimore DMA, signed by Hardy Gill, a franchise owner/partner in 30 Denny’s® restaurants;
  • A 12 unit deal for all of Maine and North Boston, signed by Danny Costa, Mike Costa and Mark Pesce, franchise owners of more than 40 Dunkin’ Donuts® restaurants;
  • A 12-unit deal for most of Iowa, signed by Scott Davis, Matt Middendorp, Mike Middendorp and Mike Flanagan, franchise owners of 9 Pizza Ranch®
